CHris Aboussafy, Founder / Instructor

Chris started his law enforcement career 31 years ago in Canada. After a few years of service, he moved to the United States and served with the Phoenix Police Department for 27 years. During that time, he worked in various capacities, such as patrol, federal weapon and narcotic trafficking task forces, undercover crim/syn investigations, and air support.

In his last seven years, he supervised the undercover Tactical Apprehension Team and was responsible for developing the teams’ ongoing training program. During this time, he led hundreds of tactical operations involving the apprehension of violent offenders utilizing Trapdoor Tactics™.

Chris retired in 2022 and wrote "Why Here, Why Now – Assessing Risk, Without All the Clutter". He is the founder of Bishop One.

Kris Marrero, Lead Instructor

Kris is currently a police sergeant in a large metropolitan police department in the Southwestern United States. Kris began his career in the 1990s and has held various positions, including patrol, crime suppression, and service on the department’s undercover Tactical Apprehension Team, both as an officer and a supervisor.

During his time on the team, he served as the lead trainer and was one of the co-developers of the team’s use of Trapdoor Tactics™ for violent offenders. Kris has also served as a team leader on countless operations and continues to train officers throughout his Department and State. He is currently a subject matter expert in force applications, holding numerous instructor certifications in firearms, defensive tactics, and other force-related fields.

Alan Bansky, Instructor

Alan started his law enforcement career in 2002 with a department in the Midwest. During that time, he worked on a regional SWAT team that covered multiple counties. In 2008, Alan joined a large metropolitan police department in the Southwestern United States, where he worked in various assignments, including patrol and homeland intelligence.

Over the last five years, Alan has been assigned to the department’s undercover Tactical Apprehension Team and is part of the training group. Alan continues to provide training throughout the Department as well as outside agencies in tactics related to vehicle containment techniques, firearms, and Trapdoor Tactics™. Alan is a certified instructor in firearms, low-light training, and other force-related fields.

Phil Belsterling, Instructor

Phil began his career with a large department in the Southwestern United States in 2007. At the beginning of his career, he worked patrol, repeat offenders, community relations, and plainclothes street enforcement. In 2020, Phil joined the department’s undercover Tactical Apprehension Team.

While assigned to the team, Phil added to the training group by creating the team’s current onboarding program for new members. That program has now been expanded to training other teams within the Department and surrounding municipalities with open-area apprehensions, Trapdoor Tactics™, and vehicle containment techniques. Phil also specializes in electronic intelligence collection for operations.

Tom Lannon, Instructor

Tom is a Police Sergeant in a large metropolitan police department in the Southwest United States. He started his career in the ‘90s and has worked patrol, detectives bureau, and on the Department’s undercover Tactical Apprehension Team, where he served as the lead trainer for several years.

Currently, he oversees a crime suppression detail. Tom is passionate about firearms and is also a co-owner of a firearms company that provides weapons and training for law enforcement and military customers. Tom is a certified instructor in firearms, vehicle assaults, and defensive tactics.

Joe Newbern, Instructor

Joe is a veteran detective with over 25 years of experience in a major metropolitan police department in the Southwestern U.S. His assignments have included Patrol, the Undercover Tactical Apprehension Team, and the Violent Crime Suppression Unit. With a background in close-contact surveillance, high-risk apprehensions, and intelligence-driven investigations, Joe has built a career around supporting complex operations targeting violent offenders.

Currently assigned to his department’s elite undercover surveillance team, Joe specializes in identifying, locating, and tracking major offenders statewide. He integrates real-time intelligence with surveillance tactics to support tactical teams during high-risk apprehensions and is an expert at covertly preparing operational environments while providing close support. Joe has participated in Red Team operations focused on identifying security and operational vulnerabilities within elite government units.

Nick Nolan, Instructor

Nick is a sergeant with a large metropolitan police department in the Southwestern U.S., bringing over two decades of experience since beginning his career in 2002. His assignments have included Patrol, Crime Suppression Details, and detective work in the Violent Crimes Unit. Prior to promotion, he was part of the department’s elite undercover surveillance team, specializing in close-contact surveillance, tracking, and identifying behavioral patterns of violent offenders. He played a key role in preparing target areas for tactical apprehensions and participated in Red Team operations for elite government teams.

Nick blends intelligence gathering with tactical operations, offering real-world insight into surveillance-driven apprehensions. As a certified firearms instructor and current supervisor of a gun crime investigations team in the Violent Crimes Section, he brings practical, operationally tested tactics to high-threat environments.
